Parents, if you find any Waynesville Elementary library books over the summer months, please return them to The Mary L. Cook Public Library.  We will see that they are returned to the Media Center before school resumes.  Thank you.

WHAT'S BLOOMING?

Did you see the iris in full bloom on the south end of the garden near the front parking lot?  It’s a wonderful flower for cottage style and old-fashioned gardens, lending an air of nostalgia and timelessness.  To divide existing clumps, some experts advise waiting until around the 4th of July in our area to dig and divide the rhizomes.  The healthiest fans of leaves worth saving are normally around the outer edges of the clump.  At this time, you can trim the leaves back into attractive fans just to keep the plants tidy.  Replant with rhizomes just under the soil surface, making sure they’re in a spot that will not be constantly wet in winter. Keep the brown and yellowing leaves cleaned up and discarded in the trash rather than composting them in order to maintain healthy irises for seasons to come.

The Mary L. Cook Library and Warren County Master Gardeners invite you to take frequent walks around these demonstration gardens.  The scenery is always changing, and we’re available to answer any questions you might have.

If you read your child one book a day, she/he will reach 1000 books in under three years. Though the goal of this program is to improve literacy skills, but even more, it’s about time spent together reading.

Ask how to sign your child up for this fun program. For each 100 books read to your child, they will receive a free book from us.
