CARE OF LIBRARY MATERIALS

Libraries provide a great service by letting patrons check out and use materials for free. To make sure everyone in our community has the opportunity to read, watch, or listen to items in our library's collection, it's important to keep the items you borrow in good condition. Please keep the library’s items away from heat, liquids, or anything that might damage any parts. We are not charging fines for overdue items this year, but we do have to charge for damaged items or items that are not returned. Help us keep our community’s collection in great shape. Please take care of your library books and all of your library materials.

NEW! NINTENDO SWITCH GAMES

We are happy to add Nintendo Switch video games to our game collection.  Switch games will check out for one week like other video games, with one renewal possible.

Summer Reading Programs

The Mary L. Cook Public Library was a very busy place this summer!  We had record number of juveniles, teens and families participating in our summer reading programs!   We had over 560 juveniles reading books to try to win a shiny new bicycle (donated by retired realtor Gil Irvin), Kings Island passes, as well as 17 other prizes (Olaf sno-cone machine, cash, Lego sets and more).  Our teens were reading in hopes of winning cash and gift certificates. The families in Waynesville are READERS!

o             Thank you, to the Beach Water Park, Newport Aquarium, COSI, and Cincinnati Zoo for providing gift certificates that allowed families that read together to play together!

o             Thank you, Friends of the Library, for providing the super reader T-shirts for the juvenile readers of 20 books or 12 hours this summer! Thank you, Gil Irvin, for the wonderful bicycle that was an incentive for many of the juveniles to reach their goal of 20 books/10 hours!

o             Thank you to the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery for donating a family pass to the museum.

o             Thank you, King’s Island, for the passes that encouraged our readers.

o             Thank you, John and Becky Barney for donating $125.00 that was a huge incentive for many teens to read, read, read this summer!

Our summer reading programs are so successful because of our very supportive staff and the tremendous generosity of our community.  Miss Kathy and Miss Sheila say, "THANK YOU"!

ADULT PROGRAMS

UPDATE ON LIBRARY DIGITAL SERVICES

Summer is a great time to get started with OverDrive (Libby App for Android and Apple users), Hoopla, and Flipster.  OverDrive offers ebooks, audiobooks, and magazines.  HOOPLA offers music, movies, TV shows (many kids selections and PBS series – go to TV shows, categories and select from there), ebooks, audiobooks and comics. With HOOPLA, there are no waiting lists as all material on HOOPLA is always available. We have noticed that some patrons are on holding lists for material that is readily available on HOOPLA, so don’t forget to check HOOPLA! We offer some popular magazines on Flipster. An easy way to access them, is to use our MLC App – Downloads (username: mlcook; password: library). You can read them online or use the Flipster app to download them. Magazines are returning to OverDrive and they are available without a wait. They will not count towards your checkout total of 10. If you need any assistance with digital services, please call, drop in, or set up an appointment to get started.

 DIGITAL SERVICE FOR KIDS

Both OverDrive and HOOPLA offer great material for kids. Children under 12 who do not have a physical card can still use their Mary L. Cook barcodes to check out digital material. That barcode number can be found on a check out receipt under the date, or ask at the desk for the barcode number. We particularly recommend read along books on HOOPLA. In order to find them on HOOPLA, you can simply type in “read along” on the Everything search bar. The Percy Jackson series and many others are available on HOOPLA. On Flipster, we offer National Geographic Kids magazine.
