PRESCHOOLERS THROUGH 5TH GRADERS... GO BATTY FOR BOOKS

Check out five books during the month of October and you’ll receive a chance for a prize you'll go batty for.

DROP IN STORYTIMES

Aimed at 3 yrs. - 6 yrs. but all ages accepted. Drop in Monday evenings 6:15 - 6:35 pm or Tuesday mornings 10:00 - 10:20 am.  Join us in the children’s room for a few stories, fingerplays, and laughs.

PRESCHOOL STORYTIMES

For 3 - 5 year olds, including kindergartners, Thursdays 10:30 - 11:15 am or Thursdays 6:45 - 7:30 pm.  Registration requested.  We play games, sing songs, hear stories, and share laughs. 

STORYTIME SUPERSTARS

Come to storytime at the Mary L. Cook Public Library and get a stamp.  When you have 10 stamps on your Storytime Superstar card you will earn a free book.  We will keep your Storytime Superstar card here.

TODDLER LAPTIMES

For 2 years old & their caregivers on Tuesdays from 6:45 - 7:10 pm, Oct. 2 - Nov. 6.  Join us for stories, games, and many laughs.  Required registration.  Limit - 12 toddlers and 12 caregivers.

 BABY BOOKWORMS

Begins Oct. 3.  Baby Storytime for children from birth to 24 months and their parent or caregiver.  Wednesdays 10:30 –11:00 am. Enjoy great books for babies, learn fun songs and rhymes, and meet other families in your neighborhood.   Parents/caregivers are expected to stay with children during all sessions.  If you have questions, please call Kathy Daniels - Youth Services.

"SCARY' FAMILY STORYTIME & FORT BUILDING

Friday, Oct. 5 from 5:30 - 7:00 pm.

Bring the whole family for an after-hours storytime*, snack and fort building in the library.  Families should bring blankets, pillows, and a flashlight.  Registration is required for this program (which began Sep. 24). Stop in the library or call to register.  *Stories will gradually get scarier, but families will have the opportunity to leave the room and complete other activities.

LEGO CODING WORKSHOP FOR GRADES 4 & 5

Monday, Oct. 15, 4:30 - 5:30 pm.  

We will be using the Lego WeDo software to explore simple coding. Required registration is limited and will begin Oct. 1.  You may register by calling 513-897-4826.  Discover. Design. Create.

CHAPTERS BOOK CLUB

A book club for those in grades 1 and 2.  We will read one short chapter book a month, then meet to discuss the book, the author, and do activities associated with the book.  The October Chapters Book Club will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 16 from 4:00 – 4:45 pm.  Registration is required.

MARY L. COOK IRON CHEF   

Grades 3 – 6 on Monday, Oct. 22, 6:30 - 7:30 pm.

Do you have what it takes to earn the title of Mary L. Cook Iron Chef?  Registration is required and limited to 20. Sign up at The Mary L. Cook Public Library beginning Oct. 8.  *Please identify any food allergies when registering for this program.

RAPID READERS & WRITERS

Grades 3 – 5, join the Rapid Readers & wRiters Book Club

Tuesday, Oct. 23, 4:00 – 5:00  pm.

LOOK WHO'S READING BOOK CLUB (GRADE K)

Tuesday, Oct. 23, 6:00 – 6:30 pm.

The group engages in a variety of fun learning activities featuring phonics, the writing of letters and words, and many other skills that promote a strong literacy foundation.  Registration is required.

LEGO FUN FOR GRADES 1 - 5

Choose one day to join us: Monday, Oct. 29, 6:00 – 6:45 pm or bring the family (ages 5 yrs. and up) on Saturday, Nov. 3, 10:30 – 11:15 am.  We supply Legos of all sizes and a theme.  You supply your imagination.  Build a creation based on a theme.   Please register beginning Oct. 15.  Limited to 20.

COLOR SCIENCE

Friday, Nov. 2 from 4:00 to 4:45 pm for preschoolers and a caregiver (3 yrs. - K).  We will be exploring the science behind color with hands on activities.  Preschoolers should bring an adult with them.  Required Registration will begin Oct. 22.

DONUTS WITH DAD

Saturday, Nov. 17, 10:00 – 11:00 am.

Hey kids, bring Dad or that special person in your life to the library for a morning of fun!  We’ll provide donuts, drinks, and provide fun activities for all.  This is a come-and-go program and there is no need to be there the full hour.  So stop in for a few minutes for a snack and complete an activity or two.  Registration is required for this program and begins Oct. 29.  You may register by calling the library (513-897-4826). You “donut” want to miss it!

FRIENDS HOLIDAY AUCTION COMING...

The Friends Annual Holiday Auction is coming. Come in and bid on a variety of wreaths, candles, gift certificates and more, which have been donated by area businesses and community groups. If you have an item you are interested in donating, please contact Kathy Daniels (897-4826). Bidding will begin Friday Nov. 16.  Bids will be opened Thursday, Dec. 6 at 7:00 pm.  You could do your holiday shopping at the library! 

ADULT PROGRAMS

Ukelele Class - Registration starts October 15

Instructor, Mark Reinemann will be offering Ukelele lessons to a class on the first and third Wednesdays from November 7 through February 20. Classes will be held from 6:30pm to 7:15pm. All ages are welcome, but children 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Please register at the front desk including your name, phone number and, most importantly, email address.  You will have to have your own Ukulele, however, we will discuss purchasing a Ukulele during the first class.  If you have more than one ukulele and feel comfortable sharing it, please bring it to the first class for those who don’t have one.  There will be weekly handouts of information, chord charts and songs.  It is recommended you bring a binder to put the handouts in.  You can sign up and join the class whenever you would like, but we can’t go back to previous lessons if you miss some. We will be learning how to hold the Uke, how to tune it, how to strum it, how to play chords and how to sing along to the chords.  Plus, a little bit of history of the instrument and how to enjoy the Uke.  Registration will begin Monday, October 15th.

Rootfinders Genealogy Group - Rootfinders will take a break until November 10 due to the Ohio Sauerkraut Festival weekend in October.

Drawing I Classes

This six-week series of classes is for beginners.  Mary Sroka-Calvert will hold class on Monday evenings from 6 - 8 pm from Oct. 15 - Nov. 19.  Registration begins Monday, Oct. 1 (adults and ages 12 and up; limited to 12 participants).

Drawing IV Classes

For those who have completed Drawing III.  Held for eight weeks on Tuesday evenings from 6 - 8 pm from Sep. 18 - Nov. 6. 

 

WATERCOLOR CLASS

For those enrolled, watercolor class meets Mondays at 9 am.

 

ADULT BOOK CLUB

The adult book club will meet the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month at 1 pm.  The book for Oct. 9 is Songs of Willowfrost by Jamie Ford.  The next meeting will be Oct. 23.  Books are available at the front desk. 

CARRIAGE HILL RESIDENTS

We will meet in your community room on Friday, Oct. 19 at 2 pm to make a puffy paint pumpkin.

ADULT FALL CRAFT

Ages 16 & up, sign up beginning Oct. 1 to join us on Friday, Oct. 19 at 6:30 pm to paint a pumpkin using puffy paint.  No experience necessary.

FIFTY SHADES OF GREYS AUTHOR

Join expert Ray Szymanski on Sunday, Oct. 21 at 1 pm as he guides us through several famous UFO cases and sites, including Wright - Patterson AFB. He is author of the book, Fifty Shades of Greys, which explores extraterrestrial visitations.

NOVEMBER MESH ANGEL CRAFT

Adults ages 16 & up will be able to sign up beginning Monday, Oct. 29 for the Friday, Nov. 16 class on making a mesh angel.  The class is free and no experience is necessary.

TEEN PROGRAMS

TEEN CAFE IS OPEN BEGINNING WEDNESDAY, OCT. 17

Teens (gr. 6 & up), each Wednesday after school 3:00 - 4:00 pm.  Each week we will provide snacks, drinks, and something fun to do! Come join the fun and bring a friend.  *If we show a movie, the program will run until 4:30 pm.  ?’s - call Sheila @ 513-897-4826.
