PS4 and XBOX ONE Games Now Available

Check out our selection of new games ready for check out, such as PS4 “Need for Speed Rivals” or XBOX ONE “Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare”, among others!  We continue to have our original games for other gaming systems, too.

 

Are you using Zinio and Hoopla yet?

Our library is pleased to provide these instant access services free for our patrons.  Zinio allows you to check out magazines; Hoopla delivers streaming or downloadable movies, TV shows, audio books, and music. Click the Zinio icon on our website to get started, while going to hoopladigital.com gets you signed up for Hoopla. We also have start-up instructions available at the front desk.

 

 

Pet Photography Class and Contest

 

To celebrate National Photography Month, we will be holding a free class on how to photograph your pets - some of the best subjects possible!  Join us Monday, May 5 at 6:30 pm with Beth McHenry from Beth McHenry Photography.  Pet photo entries will be accepted until May 19 at 8 pm. You do not have to attend the class to enter the contest.  Winners will be announced Tuesday, May 27 at 6:00 pm.  Age groups are Youth (17 and under) and Adult (18 and over) - first and second cash prizes.  Rules/entry forms are available at the desk.

 

Don’t Forget to Vote

Tuesday, May 6 is Election Day.  Polls are open 6:30 am – 7:30 pm; however, our library is not a polling place.  You may check local issues and candidates, as well as finding your voting location and sample ballot, on the Warren County Board of Election website at www.warrencountyboe.us.  

 

Adult Book Club

The adult book club meets every other Tuesday at 1 pm.  This month’s meetings are on May 6 and May 20.  New participants are always welcome.

 

Daylilies

Come to the library on Tuesday, May 6 from 6:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. for a presentation on daylilies by Dan Bachman from Valley of the Daylilies. Mr. Bachman cultivates a wide variety of attention-grabbing daylilies on his farm. Get instruction from a pro concerning the best conditions for growing daylilies at your home.

 

Home Buying 101

Looking for a new home but not sure what to look for?  Donato Andriocco will be here to help you wade through the process on Wednesday, May 7 at 6:30 pm. Bring your questions and concerns for him to address.

Rootfinders

Rootfinders will meet Saturday, May 10 at 10 am. We will be having a birthday party for Corwin, established in 1844. Denny Dalton will be speaking on the village and its history. 

 

Master Gardeners Plant Sale

Get great plants; help the Master Gardeners – what a deal!  This is your chance to say thank you to our Warren County Master Gardeners for the unbelievable job they do designing and maintaining our library gardens.  Just purchase plants, garden tools or decorative garden items on Saturday, May 17 from 10 am – 2 pm, and the money will go back into the garden fund.  While you’re here, stroll the library pathway to appreciate our garden delights.

 

WURC

The Waynesville Underground Railroad Committee plans to meet Monday, May 19 at 11 am.

 

Closed Summer Sundays & Memorial Day

The library will be closed on Sundays through the summer beginning May 25.  We will reopen on Sundays in September after Labor Day.  We will also be closed Monday, May 26 for Memorial Day.

Learn about Investing

Sarah Selke from Edward Jones is continuing her topical sessions with “Outlook and Opportunities” for investments. Come at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, May 28.

 

Arts/Crafts

Watercolor classes continue Monday mornings at 9 am through May 19.  Oil painting classes are held Tuesday mornings at 10 am.  Knitters meet each Thursday at 5 pm, while a quilters’ group meets the third Wednesday, May 21, at 5:30 pm.

 

Adult Summer Reading Program

Adult signups for Summer Reading Program couldn’t be easier!  Sign up with your name and phone number, then register to win adult prize packages any day that you check out at least 5 books or magazines. Summer Reading Program signups for all ages begin Wednesday, June 4 at 9 am (you may sign up after this date, also).

Youth Services News – May 2014

Preschool Storytimes for 3 - 5 year olds (including kindergartners)

 Thursdays 10:30 - 11:15 a.m. or Thursdays 6:45 - 7:30 p.m.

Come every Thursday for stories, games, songs and crafts.

* Our last storytime will be May 1.  We will take a break to prepare for Summer Reading Program.

NEW   Storytime Superstars!

Come to storytime at the Mary L. Cook Public Library and get a stamp!  When you have 15 stamps on your Storytime Superstar card you will earn a free book!  We will keep your Storytime Superstar card here at the library. We will continue Storytime Superstars in the fall.

The Carrot Seed

Come to The Mary L. Cook Public Library on Tuesday, May 13 from 6:45 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. to plant a carrot seed and learn how to take care of your new plant once you get it home. We will meet in the Community Room.

Calling all Book Worms (grades 2 – 4) to join The Rapid Readers& wRiters at The Mary L. Cook Public Library Tuesday, May 20 4:00pm – 5:00pm

Please join us as we discuss books, play games, try out a bit of creative writing, and enjoy a light snack. We will be reading Lost and Found by Clements. Registration is required for this program.  Stop in today & sign-up!  This will be our last meeting until the fall.

 

Look Who’s Reading Book Club (grades K – 1) will meet Tuesday, May 20, 6:00pm – 6:30pm.  The group will engage in a variety of fun learning activities featuring phonics, the writing of letters and words, and many other skills that promote a strong literacy foundation.  We will be reading Puppy Mudge has a Snack.  Registration is required for this group. This will be our last meeting until fall.

 

Fizz, Boom, Read @ the Mary L. Cook Public Library!

Spring Plant Sale May 17th, 10:00am - 2:00pm

Come to the library to shop for a variety of plants for your garden as well as decorative garden accessories and gently used garden tools. Warren County Master Gardeners will be providing a variety of plants all priced at bargain prices! All proceeds will be used to help fund future gardening projects at The Mary L. Cook Public Library.
