BRING YOUR DEVICE NIGHT

 

Monday, June 2, from 4 pm to 8 pm is an open invitation for you to bring in your digital device (android tablets, kindlefire tablets, iPads, eReaders, cell phones, laptop computers) and get assistance with setting up digital services such as Overdrive, HOOPLA, and Zinio. These free services offer ebooks, audiobooks, music, magazines, movies, and television series videos. If you are having any other issues with your devices, we will try to help you. Remember, the device must be registered to you, or you must have the passwords and email addresses associated with it.

 

Hey, Adults – You Can Win Prizes in the Summer Reading Program, Too!

Reading fun isn’t just for kids.  Sign up for our Adult Summer Reading Program, check out books, and earn chances to win unique prizes just for adults.  Be an example for the young ones in your life - let them catch you reading! The first day to sign up is Wednesday, June 4, but you may sign up afterward.  Of course, you’ll want to bring the rest of the family to sign up with you.

 

Math Tutoring Mondays - Students Entering Grades 7-12

Do you have a junior high or high school student who could use a little brushing up on math principles?  Starting Monday, June 9 from 10am-11am, Waynesville High School math teacher Jenifer Montgomery will be here to help students with their questions.

The Mercy Health Mobile Mammography van will be at the Mary L Cook Library on Tuesday, June 10th, from 12:00 to 2:30 pm.  To schedule an appointment for your yearly mammogram, please call 513-686-3300.  If you are uninsured or underinsured (have a high deductible), a financial assistance program is available.  Call 513-686-3310 for financial assistance information, or contact at www.e-mercy.com.  Screening benefits are usually covered with most insurance carriers.  The library is not able to set up appointments.       

Adult Book Club

The adult book club will be reading The Edge of Nowhere for the Tuesday, June 10 meeting at 1 pm.  The next meeting will be Tuesday, June 24 at 1 pm to discuss Buck Fever by Ben Rehder.

Picnic Foods Recipe Swap

 

Who doesn’t love a picnic?  Sign up for our next recipe swap on Tuesday, June 10 at 6pm with your picnic dish and your recipe to share.  Come away with fresh ideas to create your own moveable feast!

Edible Landscapes

While you’re here for the recipe swap on Tuesday, June 10, plan to stay for the Edible Landscape adult gardening program presented by Master Gardener Dorothea Cassleman from 6:45 pm - 7:45 pm.  Edible landscapes combine fruit and nut trees, berry bushes, vegetables, herbs, edible flowers, and ornamental plants into aesthetically pleasing designs. These designs can incorporate any garden style and can include anywhere from 1-100% edible species.

 

Candy Bingo Family Fun

Families just wanna have fun J.  Bring your kids, grandkids, and any other fun-loving relatives to a night of Candy Bingo on Thursday, June 12 at 6:45 pm.  Play bingo, win candy, and enjoy being together!

 

Investment Seminars Continue

Sarah Selke will present the third in a series of financial seminars, “Building Your Investment Income Foundation”, on Wednesday, June 25 from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm. Sarah will discuss strategies to help you create a stream of income that you can use for your expected and unexpected life events during retirement. The seminars are free and refreshments will be served. 

 

Pet Photography Winners

We had a great response to our May pet photography contest. Our patrons have enjoyed viewing all the endearing entries. Winners in the Youth category were: 1st place – Megan Hapner; 2nd place – Grant Hapner.  Adult winners were: 1st place – Kathryn Wilkie; 2nd place – Drew DeFosset. Congratulations to all our winners and thank you to our judges.

The Mary L. Cook Public Library encourages all children – birth through 5th graders – in the Waynesville area to …Fizz, Boom, Read @ Your Library!

 

Be rewarded for enjoying books and improving your reading skills during the 2014 Summer READING Program June 4th thru July 28th.

 

Reading & Registration begins Wednesday, June 4th at 9:00 a.m.!

We will have games and prizes for those who register on the first day.   

New this year - a summer reading program for Babies (birth – 3yrs.) - Little Explorers.  Stop in to register your little one for this fun program.

 

Wonderful Wednesdays are back!  Each Wednesday we have an exciting new program.

 

Wednesday, June 11 1:00pm – 2:00pm Animals Alive from the Boonshoft Museum.  Join us for an opportunity to see native animals up close.  Ages 3 yrs. and up.

 

Wednesday, June 18 1:00pm – 2:00pm Owls from the Raptor Center.  Come see owls and other birds of prey that have been rehabilitated. Ages 3 yrs. and up.

 

Wednesday, June 25 1:00pm – 4:00pm Drop in for crafts.  Drop in anytime between 1:00pm and 4:00pm to create a work of art.  The craft will take about 20 minutes to complete.  Ages 3yrs and up.  Preschoolers should bring a helper.

 

Join the Family Reading Program! (You will receive a Family Record Sheet and rules when you register.) Every time you and your family read together each of five days for at least 15 minutes, you will receive a chance to win a prize the entire family can enjoy!

 

Treasure your Treasure Cards... (You will receive a Treasure Card when you register.)

Check out books at least once a week & get your treasure card stamped.

 

Come to the Wonderful Wednesdays at the library & get your treasure card stamped.

When you have 7 stamps on your treasure card, turn your card in to the desk. Your treasure card will be entered in the drawing to win the secret treasure that’s in the treasure chest.  This item has a $50.00 value.
