FRIENDS HOLIDAY AUCTION
The Friends Annual Holiday Auction is ongoing now. Come in and bid on your favorite holiday decorations which have been donated by area businesses and community groups. Bidding continues until Thursday, Dec. 7 at 7:00 pm.
RING, CHRISTMAS BELLS
The Bell Choir from Waynesville's United Methodist Church will play seasonal tunes before the end of the Holiday Auction on Thursday, Dec. 7 from 6:30 - 7 pm. Enjoy the festive music while entering those last minute bids.
REMEMBER OUR FOOD PANTRY
Even though there is not a "Food for Fines" program because of our fine-free 100th anniversary, our local food pantry can still use donations this winter and all year round. Consider dropping off nonperishable, non-expired, unopened items at the library. We will send them to the local pantry at St. Mary's Episcopal Church.
INTRODUCING ONLINE BOOK CLUBS
Library Launches Online Book Club — Finding a Great Book to Read Just Got Easier!
So many books, so little time. For all those busy people, the Mary L. Cook Public Library has a new service: an Online Book Club that delivers books electronically. Each day, Monday through Friday, the library emails subscribers a portion of a book that takes about 5 minutes to read. They're able to read two or three chapters from a book during the week. If they like a book, they can check it out of the library. Each week the library features new books. With 11 book clubs to choose from, there's something for everyone. Patrons can read Fiction, Nonfiction, Romance, Business, Good News, Teen, and Mystery. They can also listen to Audio Books in their email and there's even a Prepublication Club. You can start reading books in your email before they're even published. Now you can discover great books, even if you're too busy to visit the library. Library Director Kelly Maloney says, "This new service makes it easy for people to get back into the habit of reading. It only takes 5 minutes a day and it's fun." Join now by selecting 'Click & Read.' You can also forward the emails to your friends. It's a great way to stay in touch with friends and relatives that live in other parts of the country.

SENSORY STORYTIME
Does your child have trouble sitting through traditional storytimes? If your child is on the autism spectrum, has sensory processing or other developmental issues, the library would like to offer special storytimes that cater to your child's needs. SANTA OPEN HOUSE
Santa Claus will be visiting the library during the Holiday Open House on Saturday, December 2 from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. Bring the entire family to see Santa, who will be available for photographs. In addition to the visit from Santa, visitors can write letters to Santa, create a holiday craft, and partake in refreshments provided by the Friends of the Library. Registration began Nov.13. Please register so we can be assured of having plenty of supplies. The library staff and Santa hope to see you there.
DEAR SANTA...
We will have a special mailbox in the children’s room for your child to drop that important Santa letter. These letters will go directly to the elves working way up at the North Pole who will take time to answer these letters. The letter paper and mailbox is ready now. Letters may be mailed through Wednesday, December 6.
CHILDREN'S AUTHOR VISIT
Come meet children’s author and illustrator Mike Artell at The Mary L. Cook Public Library on Tuesday, December 5 from 7:00 – 7:45 pm. Mike Artell is an award-winning author, illustrator, musician, and professional speaker. Mr. Artell’s books will be available for purchase and signing after the program. DROP-IN STORYTIMES
Aimed at 3 yrs. - 6 yrs., but all ages accepted. Drop in Monday evenings 6:15 - 6:35 pm, or drop in Tuesday mornings 10:00 - 10:20 am. Join us in the children’s room for a few stories, fingerplays, and laughs.

PRESCHOOL STORYTIMES FOR 3-5 YEAR OLDS & KINDERGARTENERS
Thursdays 10:30 - 11:15 am or Thursdays 6:45 - 7:30 pm. Choose to come to one of the two 45 minute sessions. Registration requested. We play games, sing songs, hear stories, and share laughs. No Storytimes in December. Storytime will resume Thursday, January 4, 2018.

Come to storytime at the Mary L. Cook Public Library and get a stamp. When you have 10 stamps on your Storytime Superstar card you will earn a free book.

BABY BOOKWORMS
Baby Storytime is for children from birth to 24 months and a parent/caregiver, Wednesdays 10:30 –11:00 am. We will not meet December 27. Sessions will resume January 3, 2018. Enjoy great books for babies, learn fun songs and rhymes, and meet other families in your neighborhood. Parents/caregivers are expected to stay with children during all sessions. CHAPTERS BOOK CLUB
A book club for those in grades 1 and 2. This group will read one short chapter book a month, and then meet to discuss the book, author, and do activities associated with the book. The next Chapters book club will meet on Tuesday, Dec. 12 from 4:00 – 4:45 pm. Registration required (this group is full).
RAPID READERS AND WRITERS
Calling all Book Worms (grades 3 – 5) for Rapid Readers & wRiters on Tuesday, December 19 from 4:00 – 5:00 pm. Please join us as we discuss books, play games, try creative writing, and enjoy a light snack. Registration is required for this program.
LOOK WHO'S S READING BOOK CLUB (GRADE K)
Tuesday, December 19 from 6:00 – 6:30 pm. The group will engage in a variety of fun learning activities featuring phonics, the writing of letters and words, and many other skills that promote a strong literacy foundation. Registration is required for this book club.
1,000 BOOKS BEFORE KINDERGARTEN
The 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program encourages families to read at least 1,000 books to their preschooler, birth to age 5, before they enter school. Families can sign up at the Mary L. Cook Public Library. Each child will receive a folder with a page to record the books they read. Read 20 books, get a sticker. Read 100 books, get a free book! The goal of this project is to help kids enter school ready to learn. Reading is one of the most important things you can do to ensure your child’s success when they begin school. It also provides an opportunity to increase their exposure to a wide variety of books, and to promote use of the library – a gold mine of free material available to our community members.

The adult book club meets every other Tuesday at 1 pm. The will be no meeting on Dec. 5. Dec. 19 (this meeting will be held offsite): The Quiet Little Woman by L.Alcott and A Christmas Memory by T. Capote. Books are available at the front desk.
QUAKER HEIGHTS RESIDENTS
Residents of Quaker Heights will meet in their community room to make festive holiday cards on Friday, Dec. 8 at 2 pm.
