NOW ON HOOPLA - MARVEL, PARAMOUNT PICTURES, AND MORE!
Hoopla now has partnerships with both Marvel and DC—two of the top publishers in the comics industry! With the recent addition of Marvel, Hoopla users now have access to fan-favorites like Thor, Avengers, Star Wars, and more.
In addition to Marvel’s iconic characters, several seasons of the Pokémon television series are available exclusively on Hoopla. Furthermore, a partnership with Paramount Pictures brought classics like Titanic, Shutter Island, and The School of Rock to Hoopla users.
THE LATEST HOOPLA TECH DEVELOPMENTS
Hoopla is now available on Apple TV, Fire TV, Android TV, and Roku devices—library patrons can stream movies and television directly onto their big screens! Apple TV also allows streaming of audiobooks and music.
Additionally, a new eReader allows for a brand-new picture-book experience. With the new read-along feature, text, pictures, and sound come to life with page-turning content from Disney, HarperCollins, and more. Search for read-along (in movies) on Hoopla.
THE FRIENDS ANNUAL HOLIDAY AUCTION
The Friends of the Mary L. Cook Public Library Holiday Auction was an enormous success! This fundraiser has grown to be more than just wreaths to be auctioned; this year we had gift baskets, quilts, desks, candles, and even an OSU football print. The silent auction brought bidders coming from all over the area to view and bid on these holiday decorations. BABY BOOKWORMS
Baby Storytime for children from birth to 24 months & their parent or caregiver. Wednesdays 10:30 – 11:00 am. Enjoy great books for babies, learn fun songs and rhymes, and meet other families in your neighborhood. Parents/caregivers are expected to stay with children during all storytime sessions. CHAPTERS BOOK CLUB
(Grades 1 & 2). This group will read one short chapter book a month, and then meet to discuss the book, the author, and do activities associated with the book. The Chapters Book Club will meet on Tuesday, January 16 from 4:00 – 4:45 pm. Registration required. *This group is presently full.
RAPID READERS & WRITERS
(Gr. 3-5) will meet Tuesday, January 23 from 4:00 – 5:00 pm. Please join us as we discuss books, play games, try out creative writing, and enjoy a light snack. Registration is required.
LOOK WHO'S READING
(Grade K) will meet Tuesday, January 23 from 6:00 – 6:30 pm. The group will engage in a variety of fun learning activities featuring phonics, writing letters and words, and other skills that promote a strong literacy foundation.
AMERICAN GIRL WINTER TEA
Join us for an American Girl Winter Tea for young ladies ages 8 and up on Saturday, January 20, 2018. We will have 2 seatings for our party; please sign up for one.
The first tea will be 10:30 – 12:00; the second tea will be from 12:30 – 2:00 pm.
Join us as we celebrate Gabriela, The 2017 Girl of the Year. Come dressed for a tea party if you wish. We will have ‘tea’ and sweet treats. Bring your American girl doll (if you have one). Required registration must be done in person beginning January 2. Each party will be limited to 20 participants.
PRESCHOOLERS BEAR HUNT

Join us for a Bear Hunt
Drop in between 9:15 and 10:00 am on Saturday, February 3 to hunt for a bear in our children’s room! Children will go through a variety of
obstacles to find a bear in our children’s room. Registration is required for this program and will begin January 15. You may register for this program on our Facebook page or by calling the library. *Please note the library is not open to the public during this program.
LEGO FUN FOR GRADES 1 – 5
We will be offering two Lego programs this month. Please sign up for one program only. The first Lego session will be Monday, January 29 from 6:00 – 6:45 pm. Bring the family (ages 5 years & older) on Saturday, February 3 from 10:30 – 11:15 am.
We supply Legos of all sizes and a theme. You supply your imagination. Come build a creation based on a theme. Please register beginning January 15. This program is limited to 20.

MAKE AND TAKE FAMILY KEEPSAKE PROGRAM
Sunday, February 11 - Drop in between 1:00 & 2:30 pm.
Stop in to make a one-of-a-kind family keepsake print. All the supplies you need will be provided. Registration is required for this program; we want to be sure to have plenty of canvases. Registration will begin January 29 by calling the library or through our Facebook page.
1,000 BOOKS BEFORE KINDERGARTEN
This fun and exciting reading program is for children ages 0-5 years, developed to increase awareness of the importance of reading to very young children, as well as encouraging parents to embrace their role as their child’s first teacher. It encourages families to read at least 1,000 books to their preschooler, birth to age 5, before they enter school. Families can sign up today at the Mary L. Cook Public Library. Each time the goal of recording 100 books is reached, children bring their folder to library to receive a free book and pick up more library books. The goal of this project is to help kids enter school ready to learn. Reading is one of the most important things you can do to ensure your child’s success when they begin school.

ADULT BOOK CLUB
The adult book club meets every other Tuesday at 1 pm. The next meeting will be Jan. 9 and the book discussed will be The Time Keeper by Mitch Albom. They will meet again on Jan. 23. Books available at the front desk.
ALTERED BOOK ART
Sign up now to learn how to make folded book art (ages 16 & up). The program is held Wednesday, Jan. 10 at 6 pm. You will need to bring a hard cover book at least 5 1/2" by 8 1/2" and a ruler marked in centimeters.
BUTTON TREE PAINTING
Sign up to make a tree painting using button for leaves (ages 16 and up) on Friday, Jan. 12 at 6:30 pm. There is no experience necessary and the program is free.

TAX RETURNS SEMINARS
Local CPA John Keyes will discuss personal tax returns on Wednesday, Jan. 17 at 6:30 pm. On Wednesday, Jan. 31 at 6:30 pm, he will hold a second seminar on Small Business Tax Prep.
CARRIAGE HILL
Residents of Carriage Hill and Quaker Heights, join us at Carriage Hill on Friday, Jan. 19 at 2 pm when we make a button tree painting. There is no experience necessary and the program is free.
CALLIGRAPHY PART 2
This class is a continuation of the first class held in November - if you have not taken the first class, you will need to get permission from the instructor (Ann Bain). The class is held Saturday, Jan. 27 from noon - 2 pm and is free.

TEEN PROGRAMS
BE A PART OF THE TEEN SCENE...
Teens in Grades 7 and up (or the equivalent) can become an important part of “The Teen Scene” at the Mary L. Cook Public Library. They can become members of TAB - the Teen Advisory Board. These teens assist with materials selection, programming plans, and other activities at the library.
Applications are now available at the library as well as at the Waynesville Middle School and High School libraries. Stop in and pick one up before January 31. The Board and Staff of the Library believe that teens are important. They believe that teens should be allowed to share their opinions and ideas. Teens know what teens like to do! We are counting on our teens to make the “Teen Scene” the best at The Mary L. Cook Public Library. Please contact Sheila or Kathy if you have questions.
