PRESCHOOLERS THROUGH 5TH GRADERS...LOVE TO READ: Visit the library today and grab some lovely books to read this month. Check out 5 books and receive a chance to choose a prize you will love!
BABY BOOKWORMS: Wednesdays 10:30 –11:00 am for babies to 24 months plus a caregiver. Enjoy great books for babies, learn fun songs and rhymes, and meet other families in your neighborhood. Parents/caregivers are expected to stay with children during all storytime sessions. No registration required.
IT'S TODDLER LAPTIME!: Registration began Monday, Jan. 28, in person for the winter series of toddler laptimes (for 2-year-olds), held Tuesday evenings from 6:45 to 7:10 pm beginning Feb. 12 through Mar. 12. Stories, games, songs, fingerplays, and occasionally, crafts will be shared with the toddlers during laptimes. These sessions involve parents as active participants. Contact Miss Kathy if you have any questions.
PRESCHOOL STORYTIMES: Come every Thursday now to the end of April for stories, games, songs, and crafts. For 3 - 5 year olds, including kindergartners, Thursdays 10:30 - 11:15 am or Thursdays 6:45 - 7:30 pm. Registration requested.
STORYTIME SUPERSTARS: Come to storytime at the Mary L. Cook Public Library and get a stamp. When you have 10 stamps on your Storytime Superstar card, you will earn a free book.
DROP IN STORYTIMES: Aimed at 3 yrs. - 6 yrs. but all ages accepted. Drop in Monday evenings 6:15 - 6:35 pm or Tuesday mornings 10:00 - 10:20 am. Join us in the children’s room for a few stories, fingerplays, and laughs.
STUFFED ANIMAL SLEEPOVER: Friday, Feb. 8 from 4:00 – 4:30 pm (ages 3 yrs. – grade 1) --
Bring your favorite stuffed animal (just one please) to the library for a sleepover! Enjoy stories and activities, then leave your stuffed animal overnight. On Saturday, Feb. 9 (between 10 am & 2 pm), pick up your stuffed animal and see what kind of mischief your little buddy got into at the library after dark. ART AND BOOKS: Monday, Feb. 18 from 2:00 – 3:00 pm (grades 3 - 5)
Join us on your day off school as we learn how illustrator Eric Carle created collage illustrations. We will try our hand at creating our own Eric Carle inspired art work. CHAPTERS BOOK CLUB: A book club for those in grades 1 and 2. The Chapters Book Club will meet on Tuesday, Feb. 19 from 4:00 – 4:45 pm. This group is presently full.
VISIT TAPE TOWN: Stop in anytime Saturday, Feb. 23 from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm to zoom around Tape Town. Bring your own small car or truck to drive along our tape roads with many stops along the way. Geared for ages 2 yrs. - 6 yrs. with an adult. No registration necessary.
RAPID READERS & WRITERS: For grades 3 – 5, the Rapid Readers & wRiters Book Club meets Tuesday, Feb. 26 from 4:00 – 5:00 pm. This group is presently full.
LOOK WHO'S READING BOOK CLUB: For grade K. This club meets Tuesday, Feb. 26 from 6:00 – 6:30 pm. The group engages in a variety of fun learning activities featuring phonics, the writing of letters and words, and many other skills that promote a strong literacy foundation. This group is presently full.
SENSORY STORYTIME: Friday, Mar. 1 from 6:00 – 6:45 pm. This sensory storytime is designed to engage kids through movement, music, stories, and sensory activity play. This is ideal for children with autism spectrum disorders, sensory integration challenges, or children who have trouble sitting still.
The program incorporates: Visual Schedule Board, Books Read Aloud & Demonstrated Interactively with Flannel Boards, & Sensory Opportunities - Bubbles, Songs, & Movement. OBSERVATION SCIENCE: Friday, March 8 from 4:00 to 4:30 pm
For Preschoolers and Caregivers (3 yrs. – K). We will learn about observation skills with lots of fun hands on activities. Each child should bring an adult with them. Required registration will begin February 18.
1000 BOOKS BEFORE KINDERGARTEN
This fun and exciting reading program is for children ages 0-5 years. This program was developed to increase awareness of the importance of reading to very young children as well as encouraging parents to embrace their role as their child’s first teacher. 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten encourages families to read at least 1,000 books to their preschooler, birth to age 5, before they enter school. Families can sign up today at the Mary L. Cook Public Library. Each child will receive a folder with a page to record the books they read. Each time a goal of recording 20 books is reached, children are encouraged to bring their folder to the library to receive a sticker. Each time the goal of recording 100 books is reached, children should bring their folder to the library to receive a free book. Reading is one of the most important things you can do to ensure your child’s success when they begin school.

WATERCOLOR CLASS
Watercolor class will continue for those enrolled each Monday morning from 9 am - noon.
DRAWING II & IV CLASSES
Drawing II and IV classes will combine and meet Mondays through February at 6 pm.
BEGINNER'S UKULELE CLASS
Our basic ukulele class is held the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month (Feb. 6 & Feb. 20) from 6:30 - 7:15 pm. Those under age 10 must be accompanied by an adult.
CARRIAGE HILL FUN
Residents of Carriage Hill are invited to join us in your community room for Bingo on Friday, Feb. 8 at 2 pm.
SPLATTER FLOWER PAINTING
Adults (ages 16 & up), sign ups began Jan. 21 for a splatter flower paint class held Friday, Feb. 8 at 6:30 pm. The class is free and no experience is necessary.

SOLVE A FUN MURDER MYSTERY AT THE LIBRARY
Adults sign ups began Monday, Jan. 28 to solve a murder mystery in the library Saturday, Feb. 16 at 5 pm (please arrive at 4:45 pm).
An Intro to the Evening's Events:
"What a wonderful achievement! The local library is sharing the illustrious achievement of one million books borrowed. Sadly, the night is about to be sullied by a death of heinous means. The victim is, in fact, the assistant director of the library, Brooke Mark. The gathering, ruined by the news of foul play, shifts its attention to the colorful cast of characters that seem to be in attendance. It is up to the patrons to determine who is the true killer before they leave, or the library may have to close its doors . . . for good!"
Come prepared to participate - limited to 25 (ages 16 & up).
LET'S TALK ABOUT IT
We are offering a six-month series that will meet the third Thursday of each month at 6 pm. This series of talks led by Dr. Brian Beckett will include an introduction and some helpful information followed by questions and conversation. Brian is a board certified counselor in private practice, psychology, and a Christian minister. The sessions are free.
