BABY BOOKWORMS
Wednesdays 10:30 –11:00 am for babies to 24 months plus a caregiver. Enjoy great books for babies, learn fun songs and rhymes, and meet other families in your neighborhood. Parents/caregivers are expected to stay with children during all storytime sessions. No registration required. *Our last session will be Apr. 24. We will resume these sessions in the fall.
PRESCHOOL STORYTIMES
Come every Thursday until Apr. 25 for stories, games, songs, and crafts. For 3 - 5 year olds, including kindergartners, Thursdays 10:30 - 11:15 am or Thursdays 6:45 - 7:30 pm. *Apr. 25 is our last storytime until fall.
STORYTIME SUPERSTARS
Come to storytime at the Mary L. Cook Public Library and get a stamp. When you have 10 stamps on your Storytime Superstar card, you will earn a free book.
DROP IN STORYTIMES
Aimed at 3 yrs. - 6 yrs. but all ages accepted. Drop in Monday evenings 6:15 - 6:35 pm or Tuesday mornings 10:00 - 10:20 am. Join us in the children’s room for a few stories, fingerplays, and laughs.

MUFFINS WITH MOM

Kids, bring Mom or that special person in your life to the library for a morning of fun! We will provide muffins, drinks, and fun activities for all. *This is a come-and-go program and there is no need to be there the full hour! 1000 BOOKS BEFORE KINDERGARTEN
This fun and exciting reading program is for children ages 0-5 years. This program was developed to increase awareness of the importance of reading to very young children as well as encouraging parents to embrace their role as their child’s first teacher. 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten encourages families to read at least 1,000 books to their preschooler, birth to age 5, before they enter school. Families can sign up today at the Mary L. Cook Public Library. Each child will receive a folder with a page to record the books they read. Each time a goal of recording 20 books is reached, children are encouraged to bring their folder to the library to receive a sticker. Each time the goal of recording 100 books is reached, children should bring their folder to the library to receive a free book. Reading is one of the most important things you can do to ensure your child’s success when they begin school.

Summer Reading Fun is coming! Reading and Registration will begin Wednesday, May 29. Reading programs for all ages. Watch for more details early May.

WATERCOLOR CLASS
Watercolor class continues for those enrolled on Mondays from 9 am - noon. Class will be held offsite Apr. 1 and 8 due to the book sale.
OPEN MUSIC NIGHTS
Open Music Night is held the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month (Apr. 3 and Apr. 17) from 6:30 - 7:30 pm. If you have any questions, please direct them to Mark at 897-4826. To pay for music copies, we will have a donation jar. Under age 10 must be accompanied by an adult.
ADULT BOOK CLUB
The adult book club will meet the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month at 1 pm. The book for Apr. 9 is A Grown-Up Kind of Pretty by Joshilyn Jackson. The book for Apr. 23 is Sense and Sensibility by Joanna Trollope. Books will be available at the front desk.
FUNDAMENTALS OF DRAWING I
This free six-week series for beginners will be held Wednesdays at 6 pm starting Apr. 10 – May 15. Registration begins Friday, Mar. 29 (age 12 and up). Startup supplies are provided. Class is limited to 16 participants.
CARRIAGE HILL RESIDENTS
Residents of Carriage Hill are invited to make a glue painting in your community room Friday, Apr. 12 at 2 pm.
ADULT CRAFT
Registration began Monday. Mar. 25 for adults (age 16 & up) to make a glue painting on Friday, Apr. 12 at 6:30 pm. The class is free and no experience is necessary. Questions, please ask Sheila.
ROOTFINDERS
Rootfinders will meet Saturday, Apr. 13 at 10 am. Linda Swartzel will lead a discussion on "What We Keep" - for example, if you only had 5 minutes to grab something from your house to keep, what would you choose? What holds meaning for you? Open to all.
BLACKOUT POETRY WORKSHOP
Sign up for a relaxing evening out by trying your hand at blackout poetry. Blackout poetry is like a treasure hunt where you are finding hidden meanings and secret messages in unlikely places. Using pages of existing text, blackout poets isolate, then piece together, single words or short phrases from these texts to create “lyrical masterpieces”. Join us as we explore this new art form. Please bring an article from a magazine, newspaper, or book with an interesting theme to mark up. Colored pencils, crayons & markers will be available, or you can bring your own. Thursday, Apr. 17 at 6:30 pm - register starting Monday, Apr. 1 (age 12 and up).
LET'S TALK ABOUT IT
We continue our six-month series meeting the third Thursday of each month at 6 pm. These talks led by Dr. Brian Beckett will include an introduction and some helpful information followed by questions and conversation. Brian is a board certified counselor in private practice, psychology, and a Christian minister. The sessions are free.

GIVE YOUR BRAIN A HAND
Want to connect your heart and mind through handwriting? This class is about the physical effects of handwriting on the brain and the psyche ... how the actual movement of the pen/pencil at the same time that the brain is thinking facilitates the connection of mind and heart. There are exercises that we'll do with pen or pencil and our brain/body connection that are fun and creative. Saturday, Apr. 27 from noon to 2 pm with instructor Ann Bain - registration will begin Monday, Apr. 8 (age 12 and up).
SOCIAL MEDIA SAFETY - HOW TO KEEP YOUR KIDS SAFE ONLINE
Rachel Miller, M. Ed., LSW, and Prevention Specialist from TCN Behavioral Health Family Center, will be at our library on Tuesday, Apr. 30 at 6:30 pm. The presentation will include the risks and benefits of social media use, how social media use can impact mental health symptoms, popular apps for youth, cyberbullying, sexting, and what protective steps parents can take. No registration required.

For teens (gr. 6 & up) each Wednesday* after school from 3:00 - 4:00 pm. Each week we will provide snacks, drinks, and something fun to do. Come join the fun and bring a friend. TEENS, YOU COULD BE A BOOK BUDDY THIS SUMMER!
If you are in grades 7-12 and like working with children, we have the program for you! “Book Buddies” pairs older students with younger children for a fantastic reading experience. Be a Book Buddy this Summer! You will help children select books, become a reading mentor, and encourage children to love books and reading. You will earn community service hours. These “Book Buddy” sessions will be scheduled to meet on Monday evenings 6:45 pm – 7:15 pm from June 3 - June 24. All teens are asked to arrive at 6:30 pm to prepare for sessions. If you are interested in becoming a Book Buddy, please contact Kathy Daniels danielka@marylcook.com for an application. No more than 15 students will become Book Buddies. **If you have never served as a Book Buddy, you will need to attend a mandatory training session at the library.
