May is National Photography Month. On Monday night, May 7th from 6:30 to 7:30 pm, Ron Wilson will be covering “Tips for Better Photography.” Ron held a wonderful and well-attended program in February about using your digital camera, and this will be a continuation of that theme. If you have questions for Ron, be sure to come to the next class installment. Ron’s class will be just in time for you to hone your skills for our photography contest!
DON’T BE CAMERA-SHY!
YOU + CAMERA = $$!
To celebrate National Photography Month, the library will be holding a contest for your photos that reflect our theme, “Dream Big”. Pick up your entry forms/guidelines in May at the front desk or download them from our website (www.mlcook.lib.oh.us). Cash prizes of $50 first place and $25 second place will be awarded in each of two categories: Adult – age 18 and over, and Youth – Under age 18. Entries will be judged on Composition, Creativity, Lighting, and the Theme of “Dream Big”. Your entry (1 entry per person due to temporary space restrictions) will be accepted throughout the month of May, up until the deadline Monday, May 21st, no later than 8 pm. Winners will be announced on Tuesday, May 29th at 6pm.
Sharing the Wealth
It’s a sad but common story. After so many years of research, for a lot of family history researchers, it’s “Publish? Perish the thought!”
But you shouldn’t wait until you have perfected your genealogy to publish it. It will never happen. Publish now, in whatever form that makes sense to you. Preserve what you have done, even if it is just giving copies to your children and family. But remember, the more widely you disseminate your findings, the more likely it is that at least one copy will survive. And the chances are greater that someone with additions or corrections will see your work and contribute to its progress. You might just find some new family. Join us at Rootfinders on Saturday, May 12th at 10 am as we discuss some common items that should be included in your publications. Share in the discussion, then get started sharing the wealth!
The Friends of the Library Spring Plant Sale is coming to the library on Saturday, May 19th, from 10am-2pm! Select from perky perennials, adorable annuals, and earthy herbs to fill out your garden beds in style. The Warren County Master Gardeners are providing these healthy plants at great prices, with proceeds going to support future gardening projects at our library.
It’s time for Ladies Night In! All ladies age 16 and up are invited to view The Iron Lady, featuring Meryl Streep as Margaret Thatcher, on Saturday, May 19th, at 7pm. Reserve your spot by calling 513-897-4826. Light refreshments will be served.
May is also Women’s Health Month. On Tuesday night, May 15th, from 6 to 7 pm, Jocelyn Metzger of Sunshine Therapeutics in Waynesville, Ohio, will be giving a program entitled:
PAIN FREE LIVING
Find balance in your body and peace in your mind using
Myofascial Release Stretching and Diaphragmatic Breathing
Did you know that breathing correctly can increase your energy level, decrease your level of stress, strengthen your core muscles, and stretch your back? During this one hour workshop, you will be taught the skills to breathe deeply and balance your body through Myofascial Release (MFR) stretches and diaphragmatic breathing. MFR stretching is designed to balance your body and improve your flexibility and overall health. Through gentle, prolonged stretches of the fascial tissue, you will experience the release of muscle tension, maladaptive holding patterns, and improvement in organ and mind function as the tension leaves your body.
Jocelyn Metzger, OTR/L will take you on a journey to experience pain free living with a few simple techniques. Jocelyn is the founder of Sunshine Therapeutics located at 277 Miami St. in Waynesville and the author of “The Inner Guide to Stretching: Advanced Healing Using Myofascial Release” DVDs. As an occupational therapist and through her own health challenges, Jocelyn has realized the strong connection between the body and the mind and the power of self healing. Sunshine Therapeutics' mission is to empower people to see that “the natural healing force within each one of us is the greatest force in getting well” -Hippocrates.
Also to bring attention to women’s health, the Jewish Hospital Mobile Mammography Van will be on site at the library on Thursday, May 31st from 9 AM until Noon. Call them directly at 513-686-3300 in advance to schedule your appointment. The library is not able to set up appointments for you. 15 Minutes Could Save Your Life! 1 out of 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer at some time in their life. Screening mammography is usually a covered benefit with most insurance carriers. Please verify that Mercy Health/Jewish Hospital is an in-network provider with your insurance carrier for best coverage. However, for those who are uninsured, financial assistance programs are available for those who qualify. Don’t let the cost stop you! Find it, treat it, survive it!
